Apparently, the new model won’t be based on the Range_e unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The Range_e concept featured a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 paired with a parallel electric hybrid system. The concept was also capable of being driven in full-electric mode for up to 30km.
İnside Line reported that the production version will use a petrol engine matched to a hybrid set-up instead, which will become available on the next-generation Range Rover sometime in 2013. The report also said a range-extending set-up would join the line-up in 2014 comprising a small petrol engine that will recharge an electric battery, similar to the Chevrolet Volt.Global Brand Director for Land Rover, John Edwards, told Inside Line the package would comprise a V6 petrol engine offering “V8 performance with V6 fuel consumption”.The report added there was little chance of a production version of the Range_e hitting the market as the cost to develop a diesel hybrid would be too high. While talking about future hybrid models, Inside Line also asked Mr Edwards about the possibility of a Range Rover Evoque hybrid, to which he replied “there are currently no plans to introduce a hybrid version”.
