Recent international reports suggest Jeep might be developing an all-new Jeep Wrangler SRT8. The car is even expected to be unveiled at the 2011 New York Auto Show later this month.
According to reports, an inside source said that American Expedition Vehicles recently built a HEMI Wrangler for Jeep CEO Mike Manley. Although it seemed like a rather cool toy to give to the CEO, MSN Autos reported that the car was actually built for evaluation purposes, which leads to the possibility of production plans.
Bringing an SRT8 version of the popular Wrangler could do wonders for the brand, especially in the US as the Wrangler is one of the most popular open-top sporty SUVs on the market. An SRT8 version would only spice things up even more.
Although details are kind of sketchy at this stage, reports say the Wrangler SRT8 could feature a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 producing 350kW of power and 637Nm of torque. This engine will also be used in the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, which is expected to make an appearance at New York as well.
We’ll have to wait until the 2011 New York Auto Show to see if these rumours are true. The show starts on April 22, we’ll keep you updated.
